Welcome to Lake City High School

January 2012

Hello once again from the high school.  As we enter into the second semester of the school year, the high school becomes a very busy place.  Activities such as prom, graduation, athletic events, forensics competitions, band festival and the culmination of the school year, graduation, are just a sampling of the activities that students will be involved in.

Early into this second semester, we will begin surveying students in 8th thru 11th grades for scheduling for the 2012-20013 school year.  At the end of the summer, students will be mailed a copy of their student schedule with instructions of how to change the schedule if it is needed.

Additionally, freshman orientation will be conducted on May 15th in the high school auditorium.  Information will be mailed home to current 8th graders with additional information pertaining to this event.  This is a tremendous way for parents and students to get a “jump start” to their high school education.

Lastly, the high school students and staff have been working diligently on ACT preparation skills.  Staff members have been focusing on the Common Core Standards and assessing students in ways that are consistent with the manner ACT tests.  Students in grades 9-11 will be involved in the second annual “Test Fest” where all students will be tested under ACT conditions.  All 11th grade students will be taking the state mandated ACT test; all 10th grade students will be taking a retired ACT test as a practice for when they become juniors; and all 9th grade students will be taking the PLAN test which is a test designed for 9th or 10th grade students and used as an indicator of success on the actual ACT test.  The high school is committed to prepare our students for their future and this emphasis will hopefully pay great dividends.

As always, if you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me at the high school office 231-839-4331.  It would be an honor to work with you.

Yours in education,

Mr. Peterson

Last spring, our high school band performed at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association’s State Band and Orchestra Festival, where they received a 2nd division rating which is a medal winning performance.
